Treat the music lover in your life: the best CDs this Christmas!

There’s just over 5 weeks to go until Christmas, which means we’re officially in the ‘oh crumbs, I haven’t even thought about presents yet’ phase of the festive build-up.

Luckily, we’re here to help. Today, we’re going to be sharing some of the best albums coming out this festive period. There’s something for most tastes in this post, so you should find – at the very least – a few decent stocking-fillers!

(Oh, and in case you missed it, we’ve already shared some of the best DVDs coming out this Christmas. That’s the movie-lovers in your life sorted!)

Motion – Calvin Harris

Scottish mega-DJ Calvin Harris’ music is more ‘all-night raves on Balearic islands’ than ‘jolly Christmas fun’, although his pop-heavy 4th album is perfect for a little boogie while the Christmas sprouts are boiling.

You’ve probably already heard Summer and Blame (featuring John Newman), although there’s plenty more to enjoy on the album. Guests include Gwen Stefani, Ellie Goulding, Haim and Hurts.

The Endless River – Pink Floyd

The Endless River

Praise be to Pink Floyd: The Endless River is the go-to present for Dads this Christmas, saving us all hours hunting down a gift for (traditionally) the most difficult member of the family to buy for.

It’ll provide a lovely soundtrack to that post-Christmas dinner lull too (shortly before Dad breaks out the Only Fools and Horses boxset).

Sonic Highways – Foo Fighters

Foo Fighters traveled America to record their latest album, taking inspiration from various culturally significant cities. The result is an epic set of arena-rockers that should get the house rocking on Christmas morning.

Unfortunately, HBO aren’t releasing the accompanying TV series on DVD in time for Christmas.

Bloodstone and Diamonds – Machine Head

Machine Head’s 8th album is a fine collection of the bruising riffs and soaring choruses Robb Flynn and co are known for.

The metalhead in your life will love it, although Granny might not be so keen. Just don’t play Now We Die over the Queen’s Speech, whatever you do…

Only Human – Cheryl

The artist formerly known as Cheryl Cole’s latest album is ideal for the younger pop lover in the family, with enough singalong choruses and accompanying dance routines to keep them occupied on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and beyond (don’t say we didn’t warn you…).

Four – One Direction

We don’t really need to explain this one, do we? You should buy this for any Directioners you know, even if they already have it. They’re bound to wear out the 1st copy eventually.

Nothing Has Changed – David Bowie

Bowie

Not 1, not 2, but 3 CDs of Bowie goodness: how’s that sound for a festive treat?!

Nothing Has Changed is a diverse retrospective of Bowie’s career, with lesser-known album tracks mixed in with all the hits you know and love.

Never Been Better – Olly Murs

The be-trilbyed one is back for another round of cheeky chappy pop that your mum and sisters will love. Begrudgingly, you’ll probably find yourself singing-along to a few of the tracks too. Admit it, you’re singing Wrapped Up now, aren’t you?

Now That’s What I Call Music! 89

You know the drill by now: all of this year’s pop hits – including All About That Bass, Steal My Girl and Bang, Bang – on 2 CDs. Here’s the full tracklisting.

Listen – David Guetta

Another collection of pop-house from the other biggest DJ in the world, David Guetta.

Who will win the battle for Britain’s kitchen floor dancefloors on Christmas Day – Harris or Guetta ?!

Rock or Bust –  AC/DC

We’ll take rock please, AC/DC. The Aussie legends are back with 11 tracks of pumping rock n’ roll designed to annoy your parents. Slap in the CD, grab your air guitar and rock!

III – Take That

And now, a moment of festive sorrow. Take That have returned, but without Jason Orange. We’re sure it’ll be great, but don’t judge if your mum sheds a few tears into her sherry.

Christmas – Michael Buble

Because what would Christmas be without Ol’ Mickey Bubble to serenade us all with tales of snow and wonder?

Michael Buble features in our latest Top Traded CD chart! Click here to check it out.
